Recycled radiator copper gown bags honors at World of WearableArt show

Making Queen Adelaide her inspiration, a Victoria University graduate has designed an exceptional gown. Dubbed ‘Queen Adelaide’, the extremely beautiful dress won Emma Whiteside the 2009 World of WearableArt show. What makes this outfit so special is the fact that all the discarded automotive radiator copper that would end up in landfill has been prevented from polluting the planet and have been recycled to make the gown.

Whiteside, who created the dress especially for the show collected discarded metal parts and sew them together. More than 200 hours of hard work went into transforming trash into a stunning recycled metallic gown that weighs a shocking 22 pounds. The designer is not new to upcycling metal. She has created many artworks from plenty of scrap metal from her parent’s automotive manufacturing plant. Whiteside won the World of WearableArts’ Shell Sustainability Prize, which left her with nearly $4,000.
