Ready to give anything for cutting down on your power consumption, but don’t know how to do it? Well, NEC has come up with a power strip, dubbed the Green Tap, which will make the much-needed difference. Since the contraption has an embedded processor and a sensor for wireless monitoring of power usage via a choice of data such as luminosity, temperature, humidity or human heat around it, the remote-controlled strip will surely slash those bills by 15% or more.

Supplied with four outlets, the device suits all kind of electrical appliances and is utilizable in homes and offices alike. Its sensor sends an infrared signal to the remote control when it senses that the occupant has unknowingly left the TV on, and soon, the TV is put in standby mode. The built-in accelerometer allows the device to cut off power supply in case of a natural calamity. Headed for commercialization in 2011, the Green Tap will take some time to help you go green.
