Kangoo be bop ZE: Renault’s Greener, Better Kangoo version

Renault
used the occasion of its shareholder meeting, held in Paris to unveil its new prototype electric vehicle, Kangoo be bop ZE. It is based closely on the Kangoo Compact Concept show car unveiled at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show.

Better version of the concept car:

Former nickel metal hydride batteries are replaced by advanced lithium-ion batteries composed of 48 modules, each of which incorporate four elementary cells offering performance, reliability, safety and efficiency. Due to the new battery, the car is recharged in approximately 30 minutes while driving range is close to 100 Km.

Kangoo be bop ZE has the Kangoo front end with its short bonnet and droplet-shaped headlamps. Light floods into the cabin through the wide, sharply raked windscreen for exceptional visibility.
Featuring an 44 kW (60 hp) all-electric motor that revs up to 12,000 rpm, it is completely environmental friendly with zero emissions during road use, while power is put to the ground through a reducer with a constant output ratio, replacing the traditional gearbox.

A unique ride experience:

The main emphasis of Renault Kangoo be bop is on space and light. Despite its compact exterior dimensions, it affords a remarkably generous, warm living space. Its extensive 3.9 sq. metres of glazed area (roof and windows) flood the cabin with light.
Front occupants gain from the sweeping windscreen, while the large, semi-circular side windows (similar to those in TGVs) heighten the rear passengers’ sense of travelling comfort. The rear windows also permit excellent three-quarter rear vision for maneuvering and overtaking.

Suitable for town and country both:

3.87 meters long Kangoo be bop is perfectly at home in towns and cities. Its wheelbase is 38cm shorter than that of Kangoo, permitting it to take smaller turning circles, so often found in towns.
It is capable of turning it around curbs just 9.7 meters apart, making it as agile as the most maneuverable city car.
The vehicle is expected to be launched somewhere in 2011.
